The Centre for Logic and Philosophy of Science (CLWF) of the Vrije
Universiteit Brussel (VUB) will host a Masterclass in the Philosophy of
Mathematical Practice with Prof. Dr. José Ferreirós (Universidad de
Sevilla, Spain) on May, 17-19. The Masterclass will be composed of three
lectures based on Prof. Ferreirós? recent book entitled *Mathematical
Knowledge and the Interplay of Practices*. The tentative titles for the
three lectures are as follows:

*Lecture 1 (Wednesday, 17/5):* *On Truth and History in Mathematics*

*Lecture 2 (Thursday, 18/5):* *An Alternative Look at Representations in
Set Theory*

*Lecture 3 (Friday, 19/5):* *Rethinking Structuralism: a Conceptualist
Approach*

We intend the Masterclass to be a fully interactive event, with the twofold
objective to understand in depth the materials presented in the lectures,
but also to discuss current work by early career researchers (PhD students
and Postdocs). The lectures by Prof. Ferreirós will take place in the
mornings, and will be followed by afternoon sessions in which early career
researchers in the Philosophy of Mathematical Practice are invited to
present their work. The goal is to offer early career researchers an
opportunity to discuss their ongoing work in a helpful and constructive
environment.

*Call for Abstracts*

We invite early career researchers who would be interested to present their
work to send us an abstract of at most 1 page by *April, 21st*. Please
submit your abstract by sending it to the following email address:
masterclass.pmp.bxl@gmail.com. The talks will be of a duration of around 20
minutes (not including discussion). Notification of acceptance will be sent
out by the end of April.

*Attendance Fees and Registration*

We ask people to register to the Masterclass by *May 5**th*, but there will
be no attendance fees for the event, and attendance of the Masterclass is
open to everyone interested. If you are planning to attend the Masterclass,
please register by sending an email to: masterclass.pmp.bxl@gmail.com.

*Travel Grants*

The Centre for Logic and Philosophy of Science (CLWF) will be able to offer
travel grants (covering travel to Brussels and accommodation during the
Masterclass) to selected early career researchers. Special preference will
be given to those researchers who do not have access to travel fundings. If
you would like to apply for a travel grant, please submit a short letter of
motivation explaining how your research relates to the themes of the
Masterclass, your current access to travel fundings, and an estimate of
your travel costs, to the following email address:
masterclass.pmp.bxl@gmail.com. Notice that it is not mandatory to give a
talk in order to be eligible to a travel grant.

*Location*

The Masterclass will take place at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) on
the Etterbeek campus, which is situated in Brussels, Belgium.

*Organizers*

The Masterclass is organized by Line Andersen (CLWF, VUB), Yacin Hamami
(CLWF, VUB) and Colin Rittberg (CLWF, VUB).

*Contact Information *

For any question, please contact the organizers by sending an email to:
masterclass.pmp.bxl@gmail.com.

*Acknowledgements and Supports*

The Masterclass is supported by the Strategic Research Program entitled
?Logic and Philosophy of Mathematical Practices? of the Vrije Universiteit
Brussel (VUB), the Doctoral School of Human Sciences (DSh) of the VUB, and
the Association for the Philosophy of Mathematical Practice (APMP).
