The Institute of Philosophy (part of the School of Advanced Study,
University of London) invites applications for the post of Deputy Director
of the Institute of Philosophy. This is a part time, fixed term appointment
for a period of 12 months (or secondment for the same period of time) at 28
hours per week (0.8FTE.)

*The Institute of Philosophy *

The Institute of Philosophy (IP) was founded in 2005, building upon and
developing the work of the Philosophy Programme from 1995?2005. The
Institute?s mission is to promote and support philosophy of the highest
quality in all its forms, both inside and outside the University, and
across the UK. Its activities divide into three kinds: events, fellowships
and research facilitation

*The School of Advanced Study*

The School of Advanced Study, University of London, is a unique institution
in UK higher education. Comprising a set of postgraduate institutes and a
variety of central academic initiatives, it is located within the
Bloomsbury precinct of the University in the intellectual heart of London.
It is the UK?s national and international centre for the support, promotion
and facilitation of research in the humanities, broadly defined. It does
this in collaboration with other organisations, notably the Arts and
Humanities Research Council (AHRC), the British Academy (BA), learned
societies and government agencies.

The mission of the School of Advanced Study (SAS) is to support national
and international humanities researchers and scholars by creating
opportunities for developing new research agendas and providing unique
specialist services and resources.

*The Role *

As the Deputy Director, you, in association with the Director of the
Institute and the Directors of the Research Centres, will manage the
academic programme of the Institute of Philosophy and will contribute and
promote its research mission. You will engage in research in a
philosophical area associated with the intellectual interest of the
Institute and will work closely with the Director of the Institute to
develop the academic standing and profile of the Institute (both nationally
and internationally.)

You will administer academic matters including conferences and seminars and
will have the opportunity to oversee the Institute Visiting Fellowships
programme. You will work with the Director to provide day to day academic
leadership and Chair or attend relevant Institute academic committees

To be considered for this post, you will be an academic with solid research
experience and be actively involved in a philosophical research area in a
field relevant to the work of the Institute. You will have academic
management capability and experience of the Higher Education Sector as well
as clear evidence of autonomy and resilience. We're seeking an individual
with excellent people management and negotiating skills and the ability to
plan strategically and develop and implement plans.
