Department of Computer Science, Wolfson Building, Parks Road, Oxford.

Grade 7: £30,434 -- £37,394 p.a.

We are pleased to announce the opening of a full-time Research Assistant
position at the University of Oxford, as part of the EPSRC Social Machines
of Mathematics project, led by Professor Ursula Martin.

This project works towards a broad goal of understanding the production of
mathematics as a social machine, a combination of people, computers, and
archives to create and apply mathematics. Project activities include:
studies of mathematicians working collaboratively, both on-line and
face-to-face, to understand more about the production of mathematics;
developing a theory of such collaborative activities; and designing
prototype tools to support collaboration.

Applicants must have, or shortly be expecting to obtain, a doctoral degree
in computer science, mathematics, sociology of science, or other relevant
discipline, and a proven record of research. The project will give ample
opportunity to develop an individual research agenda, as well as
collaborating with mathematicians and social scientists in Oxford,
Edinburgh, Southampton and elsewhere. A similar research post is being
advertised at the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh.

The post is fixed-term for up to 2 years, with the possibility of
extension.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 4 March 2015.
