Lectureship in Philosophy of Science (.6 fte), Groningen (The Netherlands), Deadline: 26 May 2014

The Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Groningen has a vacancy for an

Assistant Professor in Philosophy of Science (0.6 fte)

for two years. The position may be extended and/or converted to a permanent 
position of at least 0.6. fte within the newly established University College 
Groningen. Extension and/or conversion are conditional on the candidate's 
proven suitability, and on the continuation of the methodology programme at the 
University College.

JOB DESCRIPTION
In the upcoming two academic years the candidate will teach Philosophy of 
Science in the Philosophy Faculty and the Honours College of the University of 
Groningen for 50% of the position. For the remaining 50% s/he will develop, 
coordinate and teach courses in the Research Methodology learning line of the 
University College Groningen. An active interest in teaching ambitious and 
enterprising students is therefore required.

PROFILE OF THE CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate holds a PhD in philosophy or in an adjacent discipline, and 
has expertise in the philosophy of science and/or in scientific methodology. 
S/he has an international orientation, as may be exemplified by having studied 
abroad or by working experience at a foreign university. Knowledge of 
mathematical or statistical methods is a significant advantage. In addition, 
experience with the didactic principles of collaborative learning is considered 
advantageous, and proven affinity or experience with interdisciplinary research 
is a strong requirement.

faculty of the University of Groningen. It is a residential college with a

programme that is built around core disciplinary courses, research methods, and 
a strong interdisciplinary focus on creativity, innovation, and specific themes

CONDITIONS
Ideally the candidate is available as of September 2014. Salary and conditions 
are in accordance with appointment at lecturer level (Universitair Docent) and 
are depending on education and experience. The salary will range between 
(minimum) € 3.259 and (maximum) € 5.070 gross per month for a fulltime 
appointment (Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities).

The vacancy is for a period of two years. There is the possibility of an 
extension/conversion to a permanent contract within the University College 
Groningen of at least 0.6. fte. Extension and/or conversion are conditional on 
the candidate's proven suitability, and on the continuation of the methodology
