We are looking to recruit a Head of Department to help take Computer Science to
the next stage in our journey. We already have a reputation for inspired
teaching, programme innovation and the creation of pioneering computing
solutions. We are looking for a distinguished academic leader to help shape our
future as you balance your role as a Head of Department with that of your role
as Professor of Computer Science.
Duties and Responsibilities
Research will be integral to this role and you will be expected to help enhance
our research growth ambition and, in particular, Computer Science's
contribution to the key University research themes of ?Energy and the
Environment? and ?Health and Wellbeing?. You will also lead on the Department's
planning for growth in core areas of software development, games development
and information systems ensuring that our curricula are current and reflect
cutting-edge developments in the subjects - it is this that will further
enhance the employability of our students - something we already pride
ourselves on and which is reflected in our strong relationships with many
multi-national software companies.
You will combine a research outlook with a positive desire to ensure an
excellent student experience and practical opportunities for students to gain
exposure to real-life computing problems and solutions. You will also seek to
secure research funding where possible, mentor students and academics alike,
teach at the highest levels and generally contribute to the University as a
whole to achieve positive outcomes.
Qualification
We expect you to be an expert in your field, with an international reputation
for research in computer science and a track record in external grant income.
You will have a strong and engaging leadership style to take the Department
forward to reach its full potential. We particularly appreciate the ability to
work collaboratively and openly as well as the drive and ambition to lead
Computer Science onto bigger and better things.
