PhD Student Position in Nijmegen: Intuitionistic Reverse Mathematics

Vacancy Junior Researcher/Ph. D. student

project: INTUITIONISTIC REVERSE MATHEMATICS.

The project will be supported by the Dutch Organization for Scientific
Research NWO.

The aim of the project is to study the strength of the various axioms for
Brouwer's intuitionistic analysis as formalized by Kleene and Vesley and
to answer the "reverse" question which of the theorems following from a
given axiom imply the axiom itself once they are allowed to play the role
of an axiom themselves.

It has to result in extensions and refinements of the results obtained by
Friedman, Simpson and their coworkers in their study of the strength of
the axioms for classical analysis.

The candidate is expected to complete a Ph.D. dissertation within four
years.

The project will be executed in close cooperation with Dr. W.H.M. Veldman.  
Prof. Dr. H.P. Barendregt will act as the promoter.

Requirements

Required education/skills: University Graduate Candidates should have
completed or almost completed a Master's degree in mathematics, or have an
equivalent education.

Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 2000 - 2500
Salaryscale 11.

Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
