Telis Menas
(1946-2011)

Menas received his PhD at UC Berkeley in 1973 under the supervision of Bob
Solovay. Among set theorists, he is best known for refuting the conjecture
that the large cardinal notions of supercompactness and strong compactness
are equivalent and his work on the combinatorics of P_kappa(lambda),
including Menas's conjecture ("Every stationary subset of P_kappa(lambda)
can be partitioned into lambda^{<kappa} disjoint stationary sets").
