Stipendiary Lectureship in Pure Mathematics at Worcester College (Oxford) [Deadline: 13.6.2003]

Twelve-Hour Stipendiary Lecturer in Pure Mathematics

Applications are invited for a Lecturership in Pure Mathematics for up to
three years, non-renewable, from 1 October 2003. Stipend is GBP 17,246 to
GBP 21,125 p.a.

The lecturer will be required to teach up to 12 hours a week to students
in Mathematics, and Computer Science, and will play a prominent part in
teaching undergraduates in the Joint Schools with Mathematics. The
post-holder will be required to help with interviewing during the
undergraduate admissions exercise.  The closing date for applications is
Friday 13 June 2003.

Assessment Criteria

Examples of evidence a candidate might wish to draw to the attention of
the committee include the following.

 (*) Experience in teaching mathematics to undergraduates, and ability to
teach across a good range of pure mathematics options. For details of

 (*) A record of successful teaching.
 (*) Evidence of the personal qualities needed to make a significant
contribution to fostering a high level of achievement in undergraduate
students.
 (*) Evidence of the qualities needed to teach effectively students of
high ability in a one-to-one (or small group) tutorial system.

Although this is not a research appointment, the College believes research
ability and teaching ability are not uncorrelated. Account will be taken
of a candidates research record commensurate with the stage of their
career.


Additional Entitlements

The appointed lecturer will have the following entitlements

 (i)   Free dinners at the Common table in term and vacation (when the
kitchens are open).
 (ii)  Free luncheons in the Senior Common Room in term and vacation
(when the kitchens are open).
 (iii) The option of becoming, or remaining, a member of the Universities
Superannuation Scheme (USS).
