WOTS is growing! The Workshops on Optimality Theory Syntax (WOTS) played
an important role in the past years for bringing together linguists
sharing an interest in OT syntax. They provided excellent opportunities
for researchers pioneering in OT syntax to present their work in progress
and they provided a matrix for lively discussions and fruitful
collaboration among those researchers and other participants. WOTS
developed from a rather small meeting of OT-syntacticians into what it is
right now: an annual workshop highly appreciated and widely recognized
within the linguistic field. This year for the first time WOTS is
organized outside Germany which indicates its still growing international
character. WOTS is also thematically growing. Notoriously, OT is
compatible with both formalist and functionalist conceptions of syntax and
it has strong commitments to typology and learning theory. Recent
developments in OT open up new markets, for example in semantics/
pragmatics and historical syntax.

We welcome abstracts for 45-minute talks on any topic in OT syntax.
Papers that deal with the syntax-semantics interface and papers that take
a perspective on synchronic and diachronic variation are especially
welcome. Abstracts should be anonymous and not exceed one page. They can
be sent either electronically (pdf-file or Word document) or in paper
format to:
