-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Taking into account emotions (or more generally affects) is currently
widely explored to improve the quality of human-machine interaction and to
ease the communication with users or potential customers. Affective or
emotional computing covers a wide range of issues, challenges and
approaches, both for emotion simulation (in particular for new generations
of intelligent agents), emotion elicitation, expression and recognition.
The latter is declined along several types of modalities and media data,
such as physiological signals, facial expressions, speech, text, images
and video. Each of these modalities and media raises specific
requirements.

Thus, affective computing raises new challenges for computational
intelligence, regarding e.g. computational representations of emotions and
affective states, on the basis of psychological models, the architecture
of systems modeling and processing these concepts as well as dedicated
machine learning techniques appropriate to deal with the specificity of
the related data. The 2011 Workshop on Affective Computational
Intelligence aims at gathering researchers from the various disciplines
contributing to the domain, to offer a global and comprehensive overview
of the current state of the art on this challenging and fast developing
field.

----
Topics

Topics of interest for WACI 2011 include but are not limited to: Theories
of emotions from psychology and their application to computer sciences
Computational models and architecture for processing emotions and other
affective states Multimodal emotional corpora Automatic emotion
recognition from physiological signals, facial expressions, body language,
speech Emotion mining in texts, images, videos, film, multimedia data
Affective interaction with virtual agents and robots

Location

The venue is located in Paris, France.

Paris is connected to all major places in the world, either by plane or by
train. Its two international airports (approximately 30 min from city
centre) are used by 87.1 million passengers per year and they are
connected to 324 cities in 135 countries by 13,797 flights every week.

International trains connect Paris to London (2h15 min), Brussels (1h25
min), Amsterdam (3h13 min), Stuttgart: (3h40 min), Frankfurt (3h50 min)
Monuments, cultural places, as well as unusual visits make it the most
visited destination in the world.

Among the world's most visited attractions, the Eiffel tower, the Louvre
palace, the Notre-Dame cathedral and the near-by Versailles palace are
truly unique. The business district of La Dfense with the Grande Arche
from Danish architect Otto von Spreckelsen testifies to the economic and
artistic vitality of Paris.

Some of the oldest museums and art galleries in the world are located in
Paris, France. The Louvre museum, one of the finest and largest art
museums in the world, is the best known of the many Paris's museums. The
large collection of impressionist paintings at the Orsay museum also
attracts many visitors., Not far from the Pompidou center you will like
the Picasso museum. The Cit des Sciences in the La Villette park is a
beautiful and modern science museum. The most recent one is Quai Branly
museum constructed by the French architect Jean Novel. More information
about the cultural and touristic attractiveness of the city can be found
on http://en.parisinfo.com/treasures-of-paris-heritage/

Conference Location This is a spacious and quiet venue, located in the
center of Paris, in a building of the Universit Denis Diderot (Paris 7)
called ?La Halle aux farines?, downtown in the 13th district of Paris, on
the South bank of the river Seine.

The building is very close to the national library Bibliothque Franois
Mitterrand . This is also the name of the closest metro and RER station
(5 minutes walk).
