Language, Consciousness and Culture: East West Perspectives
	        
The Society of Indian Philosophy & Religion will hold an International
Interdisciplinary Conference in Calcutta January 3-6, 2004. The Conference
theme is "Language, Consciousness and Culture: East West Perspectives".
	        
The theme can be addressed critically, reflectively and creatively by the
philosophical, religious and scientific traditions of the World's great
civilizations. The program will include plenary addresses, volunteered
papers, invited papers and panel discussions. Registered participants who
are members of professional associations or societies are encouraged to
submit proposals for holding meetings in the conference on behalf of their
associations or societies. The organizers are committed to upholding the
highest academic standards with emphasis on the exchange of ideas and
dialogues among thinkers drawn from a wide range of the world's cultural
traditions and movements.

Alternative Logics, Relativism and Absolutism, Art and Literature,
Mysticism and Romanticism, Art and creativity, Art and Imitation, Myth,
Metaphor and Reality, Fact, Fiction and Reason, Language, Thought and
Reality, Deductivism and Inductivism, Holism and Atomism, Ineffable,
Unknowable and Tao,Samkhya and Vedanta, Esoteric Traditions of the World,
God and Absolute, Transcendence and Immanence, Scepticism and Agnosticism,
Realism and Anti-Realism, Reason, Revelation and Faith, Self and Absolute,
Emptiness and Nothingness, Theories of Deconstruction, Existentialism and
essentialism, Cultural Relativism, Culture and Meaning, Artificial
Intelligence, Cognitive Science, Sociology of Knowledge, Science and
Philosophy ,Globalization, Transnationalism and Dislocation, Diaspora,
Diasporic Thinking, Text and Interpretation, Global Village and
Nationalism,Economics and Ethics of Globalization.. This list is
illustrative and not exhaustive.
	
The Advisory Board comprises:  David Blank (Egypt), Sanjukta Dasgupta

Arrangements have been made for airline tickets at substantial discounts
and a weeklong trip (pre and post -conference) trip inside India.
Interested persons should contact the organizers. Hotel reservations
during the conference have also been made.
	        
Registration: The advance registration fee for the conference is $100 and
on site registration fee is $140. Conference events are currently expected
to include a reception and an evening cultural program.
	        
We welcome your participation and suggestion. The deadline for submission
of abstracts is May 5, 2003.  The advance registration fee of $100 (due by
August 22, 2002) should be paid by check drawn in favor of the Society for
Indian Philosophy and Religion mailed to the Secretary, Society of Indian
