                           Conference Announcement

From June 4th - 7th, 2003, the international conference "Models,
Simulation, and the Application of Mathematics" will take place at the
Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ZIF), Bielefeld.

The conference combines philosophical, historical, and sociological
aspects of:
    - models as mediators between theory and experiment,
    - the simulation of complex phenomena,
    - the application of mathematics to real-world problems. Particular
emphasis is placed on the methodological and institutional features of
applied science.

Note:

Graduate students and young researchers who are unable to obtain funding
from their home institutions may apply for a limited number of ZIF-studios
by submitting their CV and a brief description of their research
interests. Deadline for application is February the 28th, 2003.

Registration is possible as long as places are available, but to obtain
hotel accommodation at the ZIF special rate reservations must be made by
early May.

There is a registration fee of 40 Euros that covers the costs of meals
organized at the ZIF.
