The Mathematics Department of the College of Staten Island, a senior 
college of The City University of New York (CUNY), invites applications 
for a tenure-track position in pure mathematics, to begin September 2009 
at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will have a 
Ph.D. in mathematics and demonstrated excellence in research and teaching
 
and will present credentials appropriate for appointment to the doctoral 
faculty of the CUNY Graduate Center. Postdoctoral experience is desirable.
 
Candidates working in the areas of algebra, geometry, mathematical logic,
 
number theory, probability theory or topology are especially encouraged to
 
apply. Responsibilities will include teaching, college service and the 
advancement of an active, productive research program. The College of 
Staten Island offers degrees through the Masters in the liberal arts, 
sciences, and professional studies to 13,000 students and participates in
 
doctoral programs through the CUNY Graduate Center in midtown Manhattan. 
The College of Staten Island, located in New York City's fastest-growing 
borough, offers the cultural attractions and breadth of New York City from
 
a park-like 204-acre campus, with free transportation available to and 
from Manhattan. The campus is less than an hour from Columbia University,
 
NYU/Courant, the CUNY Graduate Center, Princeton University/IAS and 
Rutgers University. The College of Staten Island is home to the Verrazano
 
School and participates in the University's Macaulay Honors College. The 
Colleges advanced, networked infrastructure supports technology-based 
teaching, learning, and research. The Department of Mathematics has 25 
full-time faculty, conducting research in diverse areas of pure and 
applied mathematics. The department has a research-friendly 2-2 teaching 
load for incoming faculty, with further reductions available through

range: $55,938 -$71,974, commensurate with experience. A complete
