PhD student position in "Epistemological Aspects of Simulation Based Science", Stuttgart (Germany), Deadline: 15 October 2008

PhD Student in the Field of Epistemological Aspects of Simulation Based
Science

The integrative modelling framework that SimTech is aiming at depends on
an adequate specification of simulation modules and their coupling. This
project will develop a fine-grained taxonomy of simulation elements and
will identify and compare their strengths and weaknesses. It will clarify

the epistemic status of simulations with respect to theory and experiment

and develop a state-of-the-art theory of simulation-based engineering
science that allows for the specification of a framework of SimTech
modules.

Successful applicants should hold a masters degree in Philosophy/Theory of

Science or in Computer Science and be able to combine knowledge of both
fields.

The post is located at the Institute of Philosophy, PD Dr. Niels
Gottschalk-Mazouz.

The position with the designated salary bracket TV-L 13 has a limited
tenure of initially three years. The PhD is expected to participate
actively in the SimTech Teaching Programmes and Industry Transfer
Concepts.
