W3 Professorship in Mathematical Logic, Freiburg (Germany), Deadline: 15 March 2008

The Institute of Mathematics of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at

the University of Freiburg seeks to appoint a suitable candidate to the
post of

Professor (W3) of Mathematical Logic (in succession to Prof. Dr. J. Flum)

by October 1, 2009.

The postholder is to represent the field of Mathematical Logic in research

and teaching. It is hoped that he or she will work in close collaboration

with other research groups of the Institute of Mathematics and the
Institute of Computer Science. Furthermore he or she will be expected to
undertake an appropriate share of the teaching obligations of the
Institute of Mathematics as well as of the academic self-governance.
Candidates should possess the German Habilitation in mathematics or an
equivalent research qualification. The University of Freiburg has a policy

of encouraging women to engage in research and teaching, and therefore
particularly welcomes applications by suitably qualified female
scientists. Between otherwise identically qualified candidates preference

will be given to those who are physically handicapped.

In the case of a first appointment to professorship, a probation period of

three years may be stipulated. Exceptions from this probation period are
possible, especially for candidates coming from a foreign country or from

outside academia.

Applications should be submitted together with the usual references
(curriculum vitae, academic profile, list of publications including a list

of 3 to 5 most prominent papers, a list of lecture courses, and
certificates of academic degrees and awards) by the closing date of March

15, 2008, addressed to the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Mathematics and

Physics University of Freiburg, Eckerstrae 1, D-79104 Freiburg.
