Assistant Professor. CNU invites 
applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Philosophy 
and Religious Studies beginning the 2008-2009 academic year. The 
University is seeking individuals who are both teachers and scholars, who
 
are committed to undergraduate education, who want to engage students in 
creative intellectual challenges, and who will be active in their service
 
to the University and community. The department has a strong commitment to
 
teaching the First Year Seminar and in the Liberal Learning Areas of 
Inquiry.

AOS: Medieval Philosophy. AOC: history of philosophy, logic and 
critical thinking.

Candidates should be prepared to teach Ancient, Medieval and Early Modern
 
Philosophy, Logic and Critical Thinking and additional upper-division 
courses. A Ph.D. by 8/1/08 required. University level teaching experience
 
preferred. The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies encourages 
research and publication and looks upon teaching and research as mutually
 
serving the intellectual needs and interest of the faculty and students. 
The primary teaching responsibilities of the position are the first and 
second year liberal learning courses and upper level courses serving the 
major and the Liberal Learning Emphasis. The department also fosters and 
supports mentored undergraduate research. CNU, a vibrant, selective, 
state-supported liberal arts and sciences university of 4,800 students, is
 
located in on the Virginia Peninsula between Williamsburg and Virginia 
Beach. CNU's hallmark is outstanding teaching with a strong commitment to
 
undergraduate education and the liberal studies core; the university will
 
soon seek to shelter a Phi Beta Kappa chapter. The Fall 2007 freshman 
class of more than 1,200 students was selected from over 7,000 applicants

Experience as a student or faculty member at a liberal arts and sciences 
institution is desirable.
