PhD student positions in algorithmics, Saarbruecken (Germany)

Max-Planck-Institut fr Informatik, Campus E1 4

The Max-Planck-Institute for Computer Science is located on the campus of

the Universitt des Saarlandes in Saarbrcken, Germany. Together with t
he
university CS department, the newly founded Max-Planck-Institute for
Software Systems, the German Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and

several smaller institutes, it makes Saarbrcken an active and diverse
computer science research center. The institute was founded in 1990 and
hosts five major research groups: Algorithms and Complexity, Logic of
Programming, Computer Graphics, Computational Biology, and Databases and
Information Systems.

We are continuously searching for

PhD students

We are looking for outstanding applicants from all areas of algorithmics,

complexity theory and discrete mathematics. We are also explicitly looking

for people interested in algorithm engineering and the design and
implementation of algorithm libraries.

The group consists mainly of young researchers of several nationalities.
Our working language is English. The group collaborates with several of
the major research institutions in Europe and USA and has a high
international visibility. There is generous travel support available for
all group members.

Applications from disabled applicants we appreciate. The MPI-INF supports

the principle of equal opportunity between men and women, and is therefore

interested in applications from women.

Electronic applications are highly welcome, but should consist of files
easy to process on different systems. Electronic applications should be
sent to chfries@mpi-sb.mpg.de. PhD students may send applications at any
time.

For further information refer to the group's web pages
http://www.mpisb.mpg.de/departments/dl/index.html.

Applications including curriculum vitae, list of publications, research
plan (1 page is enough), names of at least three sufficiently diverse
references with their e-mail addresses, intended period of stay, and your

two most "interesting" papers (preferably just URLs) should be sent to:
