Five postdoctoral fellowships in the Zukunftskolleg, Konstanz (Germany), Deadline: 31 January 2008

The Zukunftskolleg is a central scientific institution of the University
of Konstanz for the promotion of young scientists in natural sciences,
humanities, and social sciences and is an integral component of the
institutional strategy “Modell Konstanz — towards a culture
 of
creativity”. The Zukunftskolleg forms a platform for interdisciplin
ary
exchange between excellent researchers in Germany and abroad and provides

young scientists resources for procuring external funding; any support is

temporary.

5 post-doctoral fellowships

for the development and implementation of individual research projects are

to be filled. In principle, each position can be divided into two
half-time positions. The initial appointments begin May 1, 2008 and end
October 31, 2009.

An extension for an additional 3.5-year period is intended, provided that

external third-party funding has been granted. Each fellowship comprises
the financing of the position (employment contract with the University of

Konstanz, with ranking depending on personal qualification and the
assigned duties and responsibilities; up to salary bracket 14 or 15 of the

collective labor agreement of the states, TV-L).

Prerequisites are a doctoral degree and outstanding scientific
qualification documented by research activities and publications.
Teaching or research experience abroad and a strong interest in
interdisciplinary topics is desired. Each fellow is a member of both a
department of the university and the Zukunftskolleg. Participation in
teaching is possible. The expected thematic connection of the project to
the research profile of the University of Konstanz should be shown.
Active participation in the regular weekly meetings of the Zukunftskolleg

as well as residence in Konstanz is expected.

The Zukunftskolleg provides a professional infrastructure and the work
place required for research. A pool for the financing of cooperative
projects, research travels, and acquisition of equipment is available.
Furthermore, fellows can nominate experienced experts in their research
field as senior fellows, who are invited to Konstanz for 3–12 month
s and
who, in addition to their work in research and cooperative projects,
advise young scientists of the Zukunftskolleg.

The selection of the fellows proceeds on the basis of the project outlines

and a two-day workshop on March 31 through April 1, 2008 at the University

of Konstanz.

Information about the fellowships and additional opportunities for
participation in the Zukunftskolleg can be found on our website:
http://www.uni-konstanz.de/zukunftskolleg.

The university endeavors to eliminate hindrances for female scientists at

the university. It strives for an increase in the proportion of women in
research and teaching.

The University of Konstanz is certified by the Hertie Foundation as a
family-friendly university. The university is especially committed to a
work-life balance.

Severely handicapped people with equal qualifications will be given higher

preference (telephone number of the representative for handicapped
employees: +49-(0)7531-88-3725).

Applicants should send their project outline (4–6 pages), the
application form (see website), their application documents (curriculum
vitae, publication list, names and addresses of at least two references,
and degree certificates), reasons for their interest in participating in
the Zukunftskolleg (approximately one page), as well as suggestions for
possible reviewers of the project outline to the following address,
indicating the reference number 2007/199.
