The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is seeking applications
for a Full Professor (W3) in Computer Science area cognitive technologies
starting in the winter term 2006/2007. The professorship is combined with
the scientific leadership of one of the laboratories at the German
Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) on campus and receives
additional compensation.

We seek applicants whose research interests cover important and modern
fields within the cognitive technologies area, such as
 - Deduction, knowledge representation, AI methods for IT security
 - Planning, including spatial and temporal inference
 - Cognitive agents and multi-agent systems

Applicants are expected to have several years of experience in leading a
large research group and in raising third-party funded projects. Currently
the corresponding DFKI laboratory comprises a team of more than 40
researchers with third-party funds of about 4 million Euro per year.

Saarbruecken is one of Germany's premier computer science sites. The
Department of Computer Science at Saarland University combines foundations
in education with excellence in applications and is regularly ranked
amongst the very best sites. The DFKI is the worlds largest research
institute in artificial intelligence; it is appreciated worldwide as a
Center of Excellence in application- and innovation-oriented basic
research. A special focus is placed on continuing the cooperation with the
computer science departments at Kaiserslautern University and at Saarland
University, as well as with the institutes of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft
and the Max Planck Gesellschaft, all located at these sites. The hiring
process is handled jointly by the department of computer science and the

All applicants are expected to have outstanding scientific qualifications,
management skills, industrial contacts and excellent didactical skills and
commitment in teaching. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science
as well as additional achievements that meet the requirements. Courses at
the M.Sc. and Ph.D. level are taught in English. Saarland University is
