Reference number W1831, salary in accordance with the German TV-L salary 
scale, pay grade E13 TV-L: employment period: until 31.03.2024, 
employment: 65% of standard working time.

Workplace/Department:Department of Philosophy, Project "Explainable 
Intelligent Systems" (EIS)

Job requirements and 
responsibilities:

  * seeking academic qualification in the context of EIS (e.g. by 
conducting a PhD project)

  * working collaboratively with members of the interdisciplinary EIS 
project

  * supporting the junior professor for Philosophy of Mind and Cognitive 
Systems in organization and administration

You will begranted individual supervision for your PhD project. As member 
of the EIS team, you will be expected to engage in collaborative work with 
empirical researchers (e.g. from psychology, computer science, and law). 
You will have the opportunity to further develop your personal academic 
profile. The campus wide Graduate Program GradUS offers various individual 
qualification measures and networking opportunities for PhD students at 
Saaarland University.

Your academic qualifications:

  * Completed scientific university studies inphilosophy or an adjacent 
discipline (e.g. cognitive science, psychology, computer science)

The successful candidate will also be expected to:

   * be fluent in written and spoken English and German;

  * be trained in analytical philosophy, or to provide evidence of relevant 
analytic philosophy competence;

  * be highly interested in working at the intersection ofphilosophy, 
especially philosophy of science, and other disciplines relevant to EIS 
such as computer science, ethics, psychology, and law;

  * pursue a PhD project that falls within the core research of EIS, e.g. 
by working on explainability, causation, reasoning, or models;

  * have a concrete outline of their project or a first draft (approx. 2 
pages) based on which you aim to develop your project;•enjoy working in 
teams and developing collaborative projectsin a highly interdisciplinary 
environment;

  * to be willing to present your work internationally and represent theEIS 
project at national and international events.
