The Department of Philosophy at the University of Vienna is inviting an
application for the position of a Senior Postdoc/Postdoc for one year
(100%, 40 h per week, 12 months) in the areas of philosophy of action,
moral philosophy and legal philosophy within the ERC Advanced Grant
project ?The Normative and Moral Foundations of Group Agency?,

https://groupagency.univie.ac.at/

funded by the European Research Council and led by Principal Investigator
Herlinde Pauer-Studer, Professor at the Department of Philosophy.

Project description: The project investigates the normative and moral
foundations of group agency. The particular focus is on the rational,
moral, and legal requirements that constitute and guide group agents
(including corporate and economic agents). On the philosophical side, the
project will explore the implications of philosophical work on group
agency for recent theorising in moral and legal philosophy. The following
research questions will be addressed:

(1) what are the consequences for moral theory if we focus not only on the
norms of individual rational agency, but also on the norms of group agency

(2) what is the relationship between moral actions of group agents and
recent relational accounts of morality

(3) how does membership in groups affect our moral deliberations

(4) what normative requirements must law meet to function as an enabling
condition for individual agents and group agents.

The postdoctoral candidate will work within the subproject ?The
implications of philosophical accounts of group agency for current
theorising in moral and legal philosophy?. Specifically, the candidate
will work on either one of the following topics: to analyse our concepts
of moral agency from the perspective of collective agency; to explore the
normative effects of group-affiliation for the (moral) self-understanding
of agents (also with respect to issues such as complicity versus
independence and resistance to group pressures); to explore the legal
framework of corporate agents with respect to personal autonomy; the
connection between law and morality in the context of group agency.

The postdoctoral candidate will be either trained as a philosopher (with a
special interest in philosophy of action, moral and legal philosophy), or
will have a law degree with a strong background in philosophy of action
and moral philosophy.
